Cheesecake Love

I think the best think about making food is watching others enjoy it. I found a recipe for a white chocolate cheesecake with raspberries online and decide to make it for my friends. I kept telling them that I would make them a cheesecake so Sunday night, since i was procrastinating as always, I did. At this point I can definitely say that baking is one thing that I find pure enjoyment in doing, especially when compared to writing papers. So this morning I dropped the cheesecake off in the WGS office before my first class. When I came back into the office later it seems that Amber was the first to discover it and from there cheesecake love occurred in the WGS office. Baking for other people really does make me happy, I think that I will start doing it more often.
No pictures were taken of the cheesecake...but take my word I think it was pretty good it was gone by the end of the day.

Cheers,
Apryl

Whoops!

So last night I was going through my yarn basket, being annoyed by the fact that I haven't have time to knit. Anyways while looking thru all the yarn that I own I ran across a pretty red yarn. As I see the yarn I say to myself, "O crap!, this is Ashley's yarn for her hat." I totally forgot that I had it. So now I feel like a terrible person, cause its warming up and I haven't knitted her pretty red hat. I think I've had her yarn for like a month now, I really am terribly slack. Seems like I have found a quick knitting project to do this weekend.
Sorry for taking so long Ashley....but the hat will be the cutest red hat I ever knitted. : )

What I do at 8:30am on a Tuesday

This morning after only about an hour of sleep I got up at the ringing of my alarm. For my Gender and Communications class I have decide to do the stepping out project. This project requires that I do something that is outside my comfort zone, and this is the reason I am up a 6:45. I had to drive to campus to attend a protest against Westboro Baptist Church, because I have never been to a protest in my life. This is a church that preaches hate against our country, people of Jewish descent, and anyone that does not see heterosexuality as the only correct lifestyle. These people use their children to promote hate towards other, and ingrain a intolerance for other people into them from birth. This makes me sad because after all what can these people know other than the distorted hateful view that was taught to them their entire lives...
So when I arrive on campus I go and grab a cup of coffee and then walk over with some friends to the protest that the students of CofC were conducting. As we approach we see what appears to be a family of four on the the corner (one being a child that looked no more than 7) with signs that have very hateful messages, but although they are the ones trying to receive the attention the first thing you see is the CofC students. I quite possible think that this is the proudest that I have ever been of my college. They were standing as a community saying that we as students promote love towards everyone no matter who they are. I feel that us as students protested in the best possible way and got our point across if not to the church, then to the community were we live.
P.S.
I know this has nothing to do with knitting or baking...this falls under the happenings category
P.P.S.
There is probably many grammatical errors because as I am typing this I am run on little sleep so I am slightly delirious.

Get Your Fresh Hot Pretzel!!!

I LOVE bread! The smell of it, the taste of it, and the chewiness of it.
These very things (and the fact that I only have only $5 left to my name, so going out was not an option) are what made me decide yesterday afternoon that I want to bake some type of bread. So I sat down with some cookbooks and began exploring for recipes. As I flipped through one of the books I came upon a recipe for pretzels. I love pretzels so much, every time I go in the mall I always get a cinnamon and sugar pretzel, I must admit there lie a drug. So being that this sweet, bread treat is a weakness of mine I thought that I should attempt to make some of my own.
So here is my afternoon of pretzel making:

before my dough rose and 2 hours later doubled in size (yeah yeast!!!)

Before boiling and baking....tada!!!!...Hot Pretzels ready to eat!!!

This was tons of fun and the pretzels turned out delicious. After they cooled down a little I brushed them with butter and sprinkled them with cinnamon and sugar, yummy. I was pretty happy with my first batch of pretzels.

Life advice for the day: Make something with yeast at least once, its like magic! : )
Cheers!!!

Teaching to knit?

So last night a friend of mine had an event teaching people how to knit and crochet. So of course since I am a knitting expert (sarcasm) she asked me if I would teach the knitting portion of the class. So me being the person I am said, " Yes, of course." All the while thinking in my head, " I am not that great of a knitter this is going to be a bad experience!!"
So last night as I sat in a circle I taught other people how to do the basics of knitting. It was an experience and I still believe that I am not the person that should be teaching people to knit but, I did have fun even though I have decided that I am a horrible teacher. The best part of the night for me was that I learned the basics of crocheting, hurray!!!! I think of found a new obsession and my entertainment for spring break.

Blissful Saturday

I love pasta!!!!! So since it was such a lovely Saturday and I had nothing else to do with myself I went grocery shopping. I bought ingredients to make a delicious pasta bake with spinach and chicken, and of course I bought some apples to make a dessert. : ) The pasta came out quite delicious but sadly the top need more cheese in my opinion...but my mother said it was enough. Today was a very relaxing day and reminded me of how much I love making food.
Here is what my pasta looked like, sorry I didn't take in pictures once it was dug into.

P.S.
Since my blog is also about knitting I thought I give a glimpse of my project that is currently a work in progress. It's my first time knitting with lace yarn so we shall see how it looks when I'm done.
